Support, not a replacement for your doctor
Turvie is here to support you, not to replace your doctor. Check with a doctor as well as using the app, and before making medical decisions.
Turvie is a self-help companion. It doesn't diagnose, treat or cure any condition, and it hasn't been reviewed by a health regulator. Talk to a doctor or pharmacist about quitting, especially if you're pregnant, take medication, or have a health condition.
Before you stop drinking
If you drink heavily every day, or get shaky or sweaty when a drink is late, talk to a doctor before you stop: alcohol withdrawal can be dangerous. Seizures, hallucinations or severe confusion mean calling emergency services straight away. HealthLink BC on alcohol withdrawal · NIAAA on cutting down or quitting
HealthLink BC advises that people who drink large amounts shouldn't try to detox at home unless they work closely with a doctor. Turvie shows this warning to anyone who adds alcohol, and the app's Journey suggests checking in with a doctor about your liver at three weeks if you drank heavily.
How the health information works
The improvements on your Journey describe what research and public health bodies report for people who quit. Everyone is different, so they're a guide, not a promise about your body.
Every card carries a label for the kind of evidence behind it, and opens its source in one tap. All 120 sources, with 186 links, are on the Sources page, and the science page explains why each part of the app is there.
